My new design, the Pasaka Sweater, is the second design in my collection inspired by traditional Latvian mittens. The mittens come from a region in Latvia where my mother is from, and in Latvian ethnography, it's well known for its highly detailed, intricate work.

While I was preparing for the release of my Ghali Sweater, I remembered how much I enjoyed working on all-over stranded colourwork. I suddenly had the urge to cast on another unplanned raglan. I’m excited to introduce the Lina Cowl, a lovely collaboration with Feliz Y Punto from Spain! As soon as I saw their yarn, I was instantly reminded of autumn. The colours feel like that magical time of year when leaves burst into vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows. I wanted this cowl to capture that feeling of a crisp, colourful fall day.

I found the cutest colourwork motif and a lonely mini skein that had been waiting for the perfect project forever, and just had to try it out. Luckily, it turned out great! I had to do a bit of math to ensure everything lined up just right, which is why there is a separate pattern after all, which is launching today called Auseklis Socks.

It's been a very eventful week in my studio and office. The most exciting thing that happened is we finally went live with the third issue ofRadåm, and the first time in English.

A quick stash-busting opportunity

I hope it's everything you wished it to be so far. I have so much going on I wouldn't know where to start. My company got bought by another company, and now I have two bosses and two work lives to take care of. It's a bit mad, to say the least. And I've got quite a bit of new yarn to play with, and it should be a great thing, but as there's just not enough time, it only adds to the disappointment.

Big news and lots to celebrate

I should probably start with the biggest - and the reason for losing my knitting mojo - we are expecting another baby! It was a bit of a surprise, to say the least, and even though the first trimester symptoms have been no joke this time, we're all very excited! I can't wait to find out the gender in a few weeks and start designing their first knitted wardrobe items!!

Anyone else suffering from a lack of knitting mojo?

You might (or might not) have noticed that I've gone a bit quiet on social media. The honest truth is that I have lost my knitting mojo. I didn't think this could ever happen to me, but it has, and it's pretty severe. I've even gone for a whole two weeks without knitting a single row. Looks like all my knitting urges have been entirely suppressed. Does that happen to you? If so, what are your reasons, and how do you deal with this?

Stepping outside the comfort zone

I have got a couple of things I want to get off my chest. Firstly, I'm sharing the results of probably the bravest colour choices in my designing history. Meet Austras Koks Pullover, my collaboration with Primrose Yarn Co.

Three good things

I started Zaneteknits in April 2019 as a hobby without any expectations, but, as can happen when you love what you do, it's turned into a serious full-time occupation. So much so that I found myself spending 90% of the time in my email, spreadsheets and other things than knitting. Last week I realised that the joy of it all was slowly seeping away, and we can't have that, can we?

Practical and classy this fall 😉

What is your idea of a simple and practical yet elegant and classy piece of knitwear? Mine turned out to be this zipped bomber knit up a luxury cashmere in a neutral tone. The most exciting part about it is obviously the zipper. It's worth noting, however, that installing it was nowhere near as scary as I had imagined. If you haven't had a chance to play with zippers in knitwear, I strongly recommend trying it out. Hopefully, you are as pleasantly surprised as I was. I've included a photo tutorial in the pattern :)

"Refresh your stash" kind of project

Today is the publication day of my latest summer design: Refreshing Tee. It is a ribbed v-neck t-shirt, worked seamlessly from the top down with raglan shaping. This design was born for practical reasons rather than as an artistic expression of some inspiration source. Every once in a while, one just needs to deal with some of that stash. Refresh it, so to speak, by making room for new skeins.

A magical sweater

I'm so excited to share this news with you: my collaboration with Spincycles yarns turned into something very magical, and now there is a pattern for it! Meet A Thousand and One Suns. I'm so thankful to Spincycle yarns for trusting me to design with their gorgeous skeins! Having seen Nocturne, I knew I wanted to use that as the background colour to just as powerful and highly contrasting colourwork pattern...

My ups and downs ... and a new test call

I'm keeping myself busy with a lot of projects to keep my mind occupied and not too carried away with the roller coaster of life that it has been lately. There have been some nice ups, such as getting published in Pom Pom Quarterly, and being featured on the cover, no less. To me, that is like getting to the Olympics for knitters...
