🤔 What happens when a traditional Latvian motif meets gradient yarn?

New Pattern Release

When I visited Vogue Knitting Live, a couple of skeins of Spincycle Yarns practically jumped into my hands. I couldn't resist and grabbed them, figuring I'd decide what to make later. I eventually decided they were destined to become a spring/summer top with a round colourwork yoke. The more I thought about it, the more I knew it had to be all-over colourwork because it's always a little sad to finish the chart and then be stuck with endless stockinette. The Celestia Top was totally unplanned and spontaneous, but it came to life beautifully, and I'm so excited to share the pattern with you!

The design is inspired by my Latvian heritage, with the Sun symbol woven into a network of intricate branches.

Made with Spincycle Yarns, the colour-changing magic of Dyed in the Wool or Nocturne brings so much to this design. The way the colours gradually change is so fun to watch; it makes every time you pick up your knitting feel fresh and exciting!

I chose to pair this design with The Fibre Co's Road to China yarn, a luxurious mix of fibres that feels amazing to knit as well as wear. The Fibre Co is also offering an exclusive 10% discount on Road to China Light yarn with the code Celestia10 for shipping addresses in North America, Australia, and New Zealand. This offer is available until July 9th.

The gauges is 26 stitches and 32 rows in stranded colourwork in the round. And to make your motif really stand out, I suggest going with a high-contrast colour combo! If your yarn is colour-changing, it is best to make sure the intensity stays consistent across all the colours.

This design also presents an excellent opportunity to practice the Ladderback Jacquard technique and try out a double hem.

Don't miss out on your 20% discount—apply the code CELESTIA at checkout on your chosen platform via zaneteknits.com.

This special offer is available until June 22nd, 11:59 PM BST! If you encounter any issues with the code, please don't hesitate to contact us before finalising your purchase, as we're unable to apply discounts after checkout.

This pattern is offered in seven languages: English, Danish, Dutch, French, German, Portuguese, and Spanish. Due to Etsy's restriction of a maximum of 5 files per pattern upload, if you are purchasing through Etsy and need the Danish or Portuguese version, please email us with your order number. We'll ensure that you receive the download links promptly!

Auseklis Socks

In a recent interview, I claimed that the VKL Memories Socks pattern could be used with any colourwork chart by simply adjusting the repeat starting point. On a long road trip, I decided to give it a try—and it worked like a charm! That little experiment turned into the Auseklis Socks. These toe-up socks showcase the Latvian Morning Star symbol and use a gusset and heel flap construction. I kept mine short since I only had one mini skein of the contrast colour, but you can easily customise the length to match your style.

The pattern will be available in just a couple of weeks, so stay tuned!
