New Pattern Release
I’m really excited to introduce the Jumis Sweater, a design that brings together old symbols with modern, ethical practices. The inspiration for this stranded colourwork sweater comes from Jumis, an ancient Latvian symbol. I’ve taken this symbol, tweaked it a bit, and worked it into my vision for a modern, yet meaningful, jumper.
This project is a collaboration with Fibre Gentili project. Just like their team has kept centuries of tradition alive through their sustainable yarn, I wanted to show a similar connection between the past and present, tradition and new ideas, in this design. Jumis itself is about fertility and good harvests, a sign of blessing and double success, meaning wealth, strength, and protection.
The Jumis Sweater uses four colours, but two at a time, which keeps things simpler. It’s a top-down, drop-shoulder design with simultaneous sleeve construction, meaning the sleeve caps are knitted at the same time as the yoke, and because you’re working it top-down, you can easily adjust the length of both the body and sleeves.
You’ll find that the colourwork on the body has some long floats. For the neatest result, and to stop anything showing through or snagging, the Ladderback Jacquard method is highly recommended. Don’t worry if you haven’t done it before, this technique is explained fully in the pattern. The charts even include suggested spots for your Ladderback Jacquard stitches to help you out. And for those who like to dig a bit deeper, there’s also a YouTube video that goes into various bits of this pattern!

We’re landing in Barcelona tomorrow and are so excited to experience everything this year’s Barcelona Knits Festival has to offer!
On Saturday, at 11 AM, you’ll find me at the mYak booth, where you can explore the original Fibre Gentili yarn used for the Jumis sweater. If you're around, be sure to stop by, feel the yarn, and say hello!
A quick preview of what’s coming in our next newsletter...

My very first bulky weight design!
This was such a quick and satisfying knit, a perfect winter accessory for when the temperatures drop. Fidda Mittens work up incredibly fast (I finished an entire mitten in just 2.5 hours in one sitting!), and they are so cosy that I never want to take them off. For this project, I used Spincycle Yarns' colour-changing Plump in Ghost Ranch, paired with Farmer’s Daughter Fibers Oh Dang! DK held double. I absolutely love how the colours of Ghost Ranch flow beautifully across both mittens.
The design features a simple cuff-up construction with a thumb gusset and a 4-stitch geometric colourwork repeat. The pattern will be available in three sizes and makes an excellent option for quick, thoughtful gifts!
A test call is on the horizon, so stay tuned!
