New Pattern Release
I’m so excited to share the sixth design in my Yoke Meditation Series! The Yoke Meditiation 6 is, without a doubt, one of the cosiest and warmest I’ve ever made. Staying true to the spirit of the Yoke Meditation Series, this design continues the theme of finding calm and creative flow through colourwork knitting, inspired by the art of Buddhist mandalas.
For this project, I’m collaborating with Shangdrok and using their beautiful Cloudy Alpaca base, which I absolutely have fallen in love with. Shangdrok’s mission is truly inspiring: they work with nomads in northern Tibet to help them revive their traditional craftsmanship. These are traditions that have allowed them to thrive for centuries in a cold, harsh world, producing beautiful, warm products.
This design is another round yoke stranded colourwork sweater, worked seamlessly from the top down with the colourwork extending deeply past the sleeve separations. You’ll notice that some of the floats can get a bit long in certain spots, so I recommend using the Ladderback Jacquard method to catch them. Unlike the usual hand-spun, colour-changing yarns I often use in this series, this time I opted for a gorgeous gradient set.
The gauge is similar to that of chunky yarn, and while some chunky yarns will work, it’s best if the yarn structure is fluffy, airy, woolly, or even unspun. This is important because a denser yarn might make the sweater too heavy. A good alternative is to hold DK-weight yarn with a strand of lace-weight silk mohair or suri alpaca. Don’t forget to check out the test knitters’ projects on Ravelry to get inspired by the incredible possibilities with various yarn combinations.

Pasaka Sweater test call
This sweater is inspired by a Latvian mitten from my mother’s home region, which is famous in Latvia for its beautiful, intricate costumes adorned with intricate Latvian motifs. I found it so beautiful, like a snowy fairy tale, so I named it Pasaka, which means “fairy tale.”
This sweater will be the second in my mitten-inspired collection, and it's designed in collaboration with ITO yarns, using their KOSHO base. Even though the gauge is quite fine and it’s a slow knit, I’m truly enjoying every moment of the process.
The pattern is a simple top-down, round yoke sweater with stranded colourwork, and the test call will be available soon, so keep an eye out for it!
