TEST CALL (TEST IS FULL): Kristine Cardigan

[object Object]

TEST IS NOW FULL

Deadline: 8-Oct-23

We're starting a test for #kristinecardigan - worked seamlessly from the top down. Note that this is an intermediate difficulty pattern.

We're looking for a few testers for each size who can complete this project by the 8th of October, 2023.

Difficulty: Intermediate.

Sizes: 1 (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8)

Finished bust circumference:

  • 93.5 (103.5, 114.5, 124.5, 133.5, 144.5, 153.5, 163.5) cm
  • 37½ (41½, 45¾, 49¾, 53½, 57¾, 61½, 65½)″

Designed to be worn with 13.5 - 24.5 cm / 5½  - 9¾” positive ease around the chest.

To choose the most appropriate size, measure the wearer's chest and add the preferred ease. Or measure the circumference of an already-owned garment that fits well. Then find the closest finished chest circumference.

Other details of the design:

Yarn: 3 strands of lace weight held together. Depending on the length of the cardigan, allow approximately (of each):

  • 1210 (1500, 1650, 1750, 1900, 2050, 2190, 2400) m
  • 1320 (1640, 1800, 1910, 2070, 2240, 2390, 2630) yds

Yarn used in the sample (size 2) is 4 skeins of Ainsworth & Prin Mohair & Silk Lace (72% Kid Mohair, 28% Silk; 420 m [460 yds] / 50 g) in the colourway Lime Mortar and Debonnaire Yarns Shimmer Lace (75% extra fine Merino, 20% Silk, 5% StellinaLace; 800 m [875 yds] / 100 g) in the colourways Pumpkin and Silver Grey, 2 skeins of each.

Gauge: 20 sts & 42 rows = 10 cm / 4″ in Half-brioche/Half Fisherman's rib stitch (see Techniques) in the round and flat, on larger needles after blocking.

Remember to make a swatch and ensure you get the required gauge. If your gauge is different from the one stated above, adjust the needle size; otherwise, you risk that your finished garment will not fit right. Block your swatch the same way you plan to block your cardigan and let it fully dry before measuring the gauge.

Suggested needles

  • 3.25 mm (US 3) circulars 60-100 cm / 24-40″ long or size that gets the required gauge
  • 2.75 mm (US 2) circulars 60-100 cm / 24-40″ long or two sizes smaller than larger needles

Notions: Stitch markers including at least locking markers, row counter, scissors, tape measure, stitch holders or waste yarn, spare DPN / circular needle in larger size, tapestry needle, 6 or 7 buttons 18-20 mm / ¾” in diameter.

Techniques used: Short rows, half-brioche including increases and decreases, backwards loop cast-on, tubular bind-off.

Difficulty: Intermediate.

Notes: The cardigan is worked seamlessly from the top down. Back stitches are cast on, the shoulders are shaped using short rows and then worked straight down to underarms. Stitches for each front shoulder are picked up along the back shoulders and worked separately with increases shaping the front neckline down to underarm. Back and front are joined together and continued straight in one piece down to full length. Stitches for sleeves are picked up along the armholes and worked in the round with decreases down to wrists. Stitches for the collar are picked up along the neckline and worked flat to desired length. 1x1 twisted rib button bands with one-row buttonholes are added on last.
