Other details of the design:
Gauge
Main fabric: 16 sts & 24 rows = 10 cm / 4” in stockinette on larger needles, worked flat and in the round, blocked.
Width of main cable panel: 50 cm / 20”
Ribbing: 20 sts & 28 rows = 10 cm / 4 cm in 2x2 rib on smaller needles, worked in the round, blocked.
Yarn: DK weight yarn or fingering/sock weight yarn held with a strand of fluffy lace weight yarn such as boucle or mohair. Depending on the length of the slipover, allow approximately:
- 670 (720, 780, 830, 885, 935, 1005, 1060, 1100) m
- 735 (785, 855, 910, 965, 1025, 1100, 1160, 1205) yds
Yarn used in the sample (size 2) is 2 skeins of Feliz Y punto Yakida (50% Yak, 50% Mulberry Silk; 466 m [510 yds] / 100 g) in colourway Platinum held with a strand of 1 skein of Cake Wool Co. Sweetener (89% Superfine Alpaca, 11% Polyamide; 800 m [874 yds] / 100 g) in colourway Coal.
Suggested needles:
- 5 mm (US 8) or needle size that gets the gauge for stockinette of main fabric; circulars with sharp tips, 60-100 cm / 24-40″ long
- 3.25 mm (US 3) or needle size that gets the gauge for 2x2 rib.
Notions: Stitch markers, locking markers, row counter, tape measure, stitch holders or waste yarn, tapestry needle.
Techniques used: Lifted increases, cable knitting, Backwards loop cast-on, knitting in the round.
Construction notes: The slipover is worked seamlessly from the top down. It starts by casting on stitches for the back neckline and shaping the shoulders using lifted increases.
It’s then worked flat down to the underarms, adding the armhole shaping increases along the way.
Stitches are then picked up along the back shoulders to create the front shoulders, working each side separately with increases to shape the front neckline and finally joining both fronts to complete the neckline and working flat down to the underarm when the back and front are joined to work in the round down to desired length, finishing with a 2x2 rib.
The collar is added by picking up stitches along the neckline and working 2x2 rib in the round to the desired height.
