New Pattern Release
My new design, the Pasaka Sweater, is the second design in my collection inspired by traditional Latvian mittens. The mittens come from a region in Latvia where my mother is from, and in Latvian ethnography, it’s well known for its highly detailed, intricate work. The beautiful motif reminds me of falling snowflakes, which I immediately associated with a childhood story, so I named it “fairytale”, or in Latvian, Pasaka.

This project is a collaboration with ITO Yarns, using their ITO Kosho base, a lovely blend of wool and cashmere, in the Blackberry shade for the main colour, paired with ITO Top Angora as the contrast.
However, any light-fingering weight yarn will work as long as there is a high contrast between the two colours to let the motif stand out. The fine gauge really makes for a delicate, lightweight fabric in this top-down round yoke with continuous stranded colourwork.
The construction is very straightforward with no complicated shaping, so you can focus entirely on the colourwork. You can watch a deep-dive video on YouTube going into detail on all things about this pattern.

To help manage the longer floats, the Ladderback Jacquard method is highly recommended. The pattern includes charts with suggested ladder placements and a link to my tutorial.
It also includes a stretchy bind-off tutorial for the ribbing to ensure your head gets through the neck.

A preview of what is coming up in the next newsletter

Next week, I will be releasing the pattern for the Layan Cardigan.
The test knitters have been absolutely loving this project, and I cannot wait to share it with you.
The cardigan is seamless and top-down, with a simple, intuitive cable pattern.
This settles into a relaxing rhythm once the shoulder and sleeve cap shaping is established.
It is a timeless and elegant piece that is genuinely easy to wear. Watch your inbox for that one!
