Pattern Release 18 February 2026

Another stashbusting mission for colourwork sweater lovers 😍

I am so excited to introduce the Emel Sweater. This was my personal stash-busting mission to start the year. The name "Emel" means hopes and aspirations. I had a very ambitious goal for this project. I wanted to create a design that does not look like a typical stash-buster, but rather a purpose-made statement piece that I am excited to wear!

New Pattern Release

I am so excited to introduce the Emel Sweater. This was my personal stash-busting mission to start the year. The name “Emel” means hopes and aspirations. I had a very ambitious goal for this project. I wanted to create a design that does not look like a typical stash-buster, but rather a purpose-made statement piece that I am excited to wear!

Emel Sweater colourwork detail

This design is worked at a worsted-weight gauge of 20 stitches x 28 rows in 10 cm / 4”. This gives you the flexibility to mix various yarn weights from your stash to create your own unique combinations. To make the project a success, I have developed some specific rules for choosing your colours across five categories. It was designed specifically with the stash in mind, so you do not need sweater quantities of any single yarn. It is a great way to use up your single skeins and leftovers, making room for new yarn!

The construction is top-down and seamless with a European shoulder. All of the stranded colourwork is worked in the round. For this project, I even experimented with working three colours at once on some of the rounds. It was much less fiddly than I expected because I used the Ladderback Jacquard method to manage the floats.

Pattern Deep-Dive: Emel Sweater by Zanete Knits

I have put together a deep-dive video that goes into more detail about the construction and inspiration behind this design. In the video, I also show you how to work the Ladderback Jacquard method when using three yarns at once.
